Overview
========

  MINIX microkernels and their subsystems were appeared in
1990's to bring a practical (open-source) environment of
Operating System for educational foundation, and became 
BSD-style licence at 2000.
  This project try to integrate its historical transition 
by kniting up some materials and a CVS repository.

1. Summary
===========

  MINIX microkernel and its subsystems were appeared in
1990's to bring a practical open-sourced environment of
OperatingSystem (OS) for educational foundation, and became
BSD-style licence at 2000.
  This project try to integrate its historical transition by
kniting materials and CVS repository up.


2. Overview
============

  MINIX is also open-source product.  It was originally
written by Andrew S. Tanenbaum near 1986, and distributed
for educational and/or reserch purpose with free source
licence (*1).  And year 2000, it had been changed WHOLE
license ever distributed into BSD-style.
  But the long history seems to diffuse the position of
open-source movement, and its source code transition for
young Unix lerners.

  That's why minix-up project try to re-construct the 
'old & new' product with following actions:

 - Research and collecting historical materials for MINIX
 - Collecting MINIX sources (Standards, folks, and patches)

  and aim final targets:

- Building historical CVS repository that includes source
 transition of MINIX, with step-by-step test distribution
- (If possible) keep up with some modern problems
- Abiogenesis of new project, or hand over a fruit to 
 existing project


3. Plans
=========

 This project stands as preperation for MINIX open-source
product, has 2 year's time limit to clear its situation.


Collecting historical entities
-------------------------------

  First, we try to collect fundamental MINIX resources from
the Internet. Second, we approach officials about MINIX
resources as possible as we can.
  Planned fruitages are MINIX timeline, and MINIX family-
tree.


Building Historical CVS Repository
-----------------------------------

  First, we try to research how we should build CVS repos-
itory with MINIX sources that still available from the
Internet.
  Second, we approach officials about MINIX ancient sources
as possible as we can.
  Builded CVS Repository were opened by gradual approach.


About open resources in SourceForge.jp
---------------------------------------

  We use SourceForge.jp's open resources to recruit contri-
bution widely and promote our fruitages shared.

 * WWW for document and community
 * CVS for resource update
 * Anon FTP for binary distribution
 * Anon CVS for source distribution
 * CVSUP or Anon FTP for CVS Repository distribution


4. A goal of this project
=========================

  This project will end with these cases(*2):

  * Anouncement of the end and holding of it
  * Inheritance by other project 
  * Time out of the limit
  * No operation with last six months

  If possible, all open-resouses are compressed and staid
here (Forks are welcome).
  We planned six months' open publication after ending.
And it's entrusted to SourceForge.jp about over six months.
